The development of AMÍ followed 15 years of study by Professor Michele Pietro Ghezzo, founder of several pro-animal and antivivisectionist associations, committed with animal protectionist and consultant to the Italian Parliament on the subject. He conceived the idea of creating a 'animal-ethic' company (Ethicanimale).

To test the practicability of the idea a study began in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna, continued then by the University of Padova during the 1990's.

Over those 15 years technological progress has made it possible to nutritionally complete, healthy and ethically irreplaceable pet foods.

Commercial operations began when AMÍ was incorporated in 2002 and began full-scale production in 2003. Since then AMÍ products have been introduced to enthusiastic customers across Europe, going on sale in the UK in early 2004.

AMÍ has continued to innovate with the introduction of an biodegradeable, compostable and flushable clumping cat litter made entirely from plant matter. More recently, the introduction of edible bones enriched with nutritional supplements has seen the selection become an ever more complete solution for people seeking a healthy, ethical alternative to traditional pet foods.
